KUALA TERENGGANU, April 23 (Bernama) -- Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri

Ahmad Said has urged society to nip child abuse cases in the bud.

He said the public should be concerned and take efforts to stem budding

child abuse cases and alert the authorities.

He said this when commenting on child abuse victim, Mohd Danish Aiman

Abdullah, three, who fell into a coma after he was believed to have been

tortured and slapped by his mother''s boyfriend on Saturday.

Ahmad said, it was important for the public, especially the mother and

relatives, who noticed or suspected child abuse cases, to immediately contact

the police.

"I am saddened by the case (involving Mohd Danish), the victim''s mother

should not have let this kind of thing to happen to her child," he told

reporters after visiting Mohd Danish at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here

today.

State police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa, who also visited the victim, said

the police were in the midst of tracking down a 31-year-old man in connection

with the case.

He said the suspect, from Kampung Tualang, Manir here, was previously linked

to theft, kidnapping, riot and drugs.
