Menezes cuts Ronaldinho and 16 others from Brazil Olympic squad

Brazil coach Mano Menezes has taken the step of cutting 17 players from his preliminary list for the Olympics, including well-known names such as Ronaldinho, Hernanes and Julio Cesar.

Olympic rules stipulate that each team is allowed just three players over the age of the 23 in their squad, and Menezes has elected to trim some of the better-known names in his list.

A final group of 18 men will have to be announced on July 6, meaning that the 47-year-old will be forced to send a further 14 players packing in due course.

The men's football at the 2012 Summer Olympics begins on July 26, and the final will take place at Wembley on August 11.
