MINISTRY ALLOCATES RM5 MILLION TO CARTOONIST AT WORK CONSORTIUM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- The Information Communication and Culture

Ministry has allocated RM5 million to the Cartoonist At Work (CAW) Consortium to

enable them to produce cartoons and animated products that can compete with

    those produced by other companies.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, said the allocation would be

channeled through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

under the plan to guide animation production houses to maintain its

    productivity, quality and public acceptance.

He said the products would be aired mainly on Radio Television Malaysia

(RTM) channels and Bernama TV, besides other stations including those owned by

    Astro and Media Prima.

"Hence, we hope local cartoonists will not only put their ideas in the form

of drawings, but also in the form of animation and short films.

"This is not a Mat Jenin''s dream, but it can become a reality because

through animation, a 1Malaysia society can be created," he said after attending

a luncheon with cartoon industry players, here today.
