"Mockingjay" scores at box office

25 Nov – The first final part of the "Hunger Games" franchise, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" wins big at last weekend's box office collection for Malaysia, Singapore and U.S. for the weekend of 20 to 23 November 2014 as it scored the biggest opening debut of the year in North America.

Not only did the film top the U.S. weekend box office collection, "Mockingjay" is also the biggest opener in 2014 so far with a worldwide total of USD121.9 million as reported by Box Office Mojo.

In a very far second place, Marvel's Disney animated film, "Big Hero 6" remained at second place for the second week running grossing over USD20.1 million in North America.

Maintaining its position in third place for the third week now in U.S. is Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" with a collection of USD15.3 million.

Similarly in Malaysia and Singapore, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" opened up strong last weekend, pushing "Big Hero 6" and "Interstellar" to second and third place respectively.

Also opening in Malaysia last week; "Happy Ending", "Naaigal Jaakirathai", "Vanmham", "Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends", "Kaki Kitai" and "Behind The Scene".

Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week; Happy Ending", "Naaigal Jaakirathai", "Vanmham", "Kaki Kitai", "A Fantastic Ghost Wedding", "Stonehearst Asylum", "Dearest" and "Maps to the Stars".
