Monday's Bet of the Day Extra: Brentford to record a comfortable win against Carlisle

This game has all the makings of a well-matched contest when Brentford host Carlisle at Griffin Park on Monday evening.

Both teams lie just outside the League One play-off positions and a win for the away side would take them into the top six. Carlisle are the underdogs despite their superior league placing and can be backed to win at 13/5 (3.6) with Bet365.

The similarity between the two sides is highlighted by the fact that while Brentford have won five and drawn five at home, Carlisle have won five and drawn five away.

Brentford can move within three points of the visitors with a win and that is available at 11/10 (2.1) with Bet365. The draw might be even more tempting given that both teams have drawn four of their last eight. The draw is 9/4 (3.25) with Bet365.

When it comes to the goalscorer markets, it is impossible to avoid Brentford hitman Gary Alexander. The forward is on an astonishing hot streak having scored 10 goals in his last 10 games for the club.

No team in League One has conceded more first-half goals than Carlisle so Alexander is the stand-out candidate to open the scoring. He can be backed at 9/2 (5.5) with Bet365.

It is because of Carlisle’s habit of conceding before the interval that the last goalscorer market might be a better bet for the away side. Francois Zoko has been in the goals for Carlisle in recent times with seven goals in his last 10 games, with two of those appearances and goals coming from the bench. Zoko is a good bet to end the scoring and is available at a generous 9/1 (10.0) with Bet365.

Carlisle’s poor first-half record combined with the long trip they are forced to make for this fixture means Brentford should have the better of the early stages.

With the Bees in front of their own fans they can be expected to hold onto any early advantage, so backing Brentford/Brentford in the half-time/full-time market is the way to go. That’s our Bet of the Day and is available at 9/4 (3.25) with Bet365.

For the value bet, both the goalscorer tips discussed are distinct possibilities but Alexander’s remarkable recent form – including five in his last three – makes him the obvious choice at a great price.
