Monopoly adds new rules for 2015 edition

The famous board game, which has been bringing families together for infamously long stretches of time since 1935, is evolving with the addition of five new rules, to be added to the game guide from 2015.

Throughout Monopoly's history, families have invented their own variations and house rules, whether to adapt play to certain players' abilities, to make things more interesting or simply to make it easier to finally finish a game. In some households, children are exempt from jail time, while in others, players who roll "Snake Eyes" (double ones) receive a $500 bonus.

For 2015, Hasbro decided to let fans determine five new rules that will be added to Monopoly. The company opened the debate on its Facebook page and then announced its selection, which will be included in the rulebook of a special Monopoly House Rules Edition slated for release this fall.

From 2015, the new rules will be added to the guide of the classic Monopoly edition as unofficial, so as not to upset purists who swear by the original guidelines.

According to the new rules, players who land exactly on "Go" will be able to collect double the usual $200 salary. In prison, they will not be able to collect rent. Another added rule: players must make one complete trip around the board before they can buy property. Players who land on "Free Parking" get to collect all of the money paid into the fund in fees and taxes. Finally, players who roll "Snake Eyes" will receive a $500 bonus.

Since 1935, over 275 million copies of Monopoly have been sold worldwide. The game is available in 111 countries and 43 languages.
