KUALA TERENGGANU, April 24 (Bernama) -- Police today confirmed that the

mother of abused victim Mohd Danish Aiman Abdullah, two and a half-years-old was

also being investigated in the case.

State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the woman, 22, had been called to give

her statements even though she had not been detained.

He said investigations found the mother of the victim also had drug-related

criminal records.

"The main suspect in the case is Azhar Jusoh, 31, the boyfriend of the

victim''s mother but at the same time we are also investigating the mother as she

was present during the incident," he said when contacted here today.

Last Saturday, Bernama reported that a boy was in coma after being slapped

by the mother''s boyfriend, following a misunderstanding between the woman and

the man.

POLICE-ABUSE 2 (LAST) KUALA TERENGGANU

As a result of the abuse, Mohd Danish sustained a blood clot in his brain

and he was reported to be stable after undergoing an operation but the victim

faces the risk of being paralysed as the injury affected the nerve of his right

hand.

The unfortunate child also had to undergo a follow-up operation after this

to address old injuries sustained from frequent abuse in the past.

According to Manoharan, Azhar from Kampung Tualang, Manir was still at large

and police were distributing his pictures to alert the public.

He urged members of the public who had information on the suspect to contact

the nearest police station to facilitate investigations under Section 31 (1) (a)

of the Child Act 2001 which provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years or fine

or both.
