MUAR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The late Mohd Yassin Muhammad, the father of
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin, was an open-minded Islamic scholar
during his lifetime, said Johor mufti Datuk Tahril Samsudin.
"Allahyaryam (Mohd Yassin) was a scholar who preached Islam with utmost
sincerity," said Tahril, who was one Mohd Yassin''s students.
He said Mohd Yassin''s prophesy that one of his 47 children would become
famous and an important person turned out to be true as Muhyiddin assailed to
become the deputy prime minister.
"Allahyarham had mentioned twice that one of his children would become a
prominent person," said Tahril when launching a book on Mohd Yassin at the
Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque here today.
Muhyiddin was also present.

The book, written by Abd Latif Juffri @ Al-Jufri and Amad Bahri Mardi, was
published by the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books.
Tahril said in 1967, he and his friend, Ahmad Tunggal, a prominent religious
teacher in Muar, were among hundreds of students who studied under the tutelage
of Mohd Yassin at Madarasah Assadiah, which he (Mohd Yassin) set up in 1967.
Mohd Yassin also played a pivotal role in the setting up of Sekolah Maahad
in Jalan Joned in 1946 before the school was taken over by the Johor Religious
Department in 1966 and later placed under the Education Ministry on 1977, said
Tahril.
Meanwhile, Aziz, a son of Mohd Yassin and former Member of Parliament for
Muar, thanked the authors for their untiring research to bring the book to
fruition and hoped his father''s experience would be an inspiration to readers.
Muhyiddin later presented copies of the book to his father''s ex-students and
Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque committee members.
