Najib using the courts against me, says Anwar

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim claims that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is using the court process to stifle him further as the 13th general election approaches.

The charges against him are politically orchestrated, Anwar said, and an attempt to deflect away from the fundamental issue, which is a fraudulent electoral process.

"Najib has to face me in the election and he wants to use the court to assist him. I want to tell Najib, the election is for the people to decide.

"You should not use the court and a flawed law that you approved in Parliament to intimidate your political opponents like me and the others," Anwar ( left in photo ) said.

"You cannot use a questionable law (Peaceful Assembly Act) that Parliament had approved under heavy opposition to intimidate and stifle your political opponents,” he said.

“Once again, he used attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail for his own political whims. How many charges do you want to frame against me?

"He has already used every avenue - the media, the court - to stifle and intimidate me,” Anwar said.

Despite having to come to court for this case , Anwar said he was not perturbed and it would not hamper his  efforts in political campaign.

“The prosecution wants to have me tied up fast with the court process as it is seeking an early date. However, the defence team had objected to it,” he said.

The Permatang Pauh MP said that just as with his Sodomy II case, not only Malaysians but the whole world would be watching.

He said the July 2 date gives him another month to actively campaign for the opposition cause.
