Naomi Campbell strutted her stuff at Zac Posen’s New York Fashion Week show last night.
The British supermodel was a surprise inclusion at the Spring/Summer 13 presentation. She announced she would be taking to the runway on Twitter, marking one of her first messages on the site.
“Here I am, finally on @Twitter. What’s up #NYFW?” she wrote. “About to walk the @ZacPosen show at #NYFW…you ready for me? (sic).”
Zac brought in the big guns for his show, also convincing Karolina Kurkova, Alek Wek and Coco Rocha to walk for him.
Dresses were key during the show, with Naomi donning a red and white floral number with a simple peplum hem and bustier neckline.
Karoline wore a show-stopping silver number, which is more like the red carpet offerings Zac is known for. The gown fell to the calf and was a corseted top, with a full skirt boasting panel detailing.
Alek’s full-length fishtail gown had a chiffon panel covering her chest, stretching from strap to strap and reaching down into a deep V. The fabric also covered the flare of the dress from the knee down, where the black fabric gave way into a riot of red, yellow and green flowers.
Coco donned a show-stopping white gown which wouldn’t look out of place on a bride. The tight, sweet-heart neckline gave way to a voluminous skirt – so big it took up the entire width of the runway.
Zac’s collection also took in tulle, taffeta, organza and ruffles, offering some of the finest eveningwear expected to be seen at the American shows.
Also showing yesterday was Victoria Beckham, who once again stunned fashion editors with a beautifully thought out and perfectly executed line. The singer-turned-designer showed separates for the first time, sending jackets with perfect pointy collars and well-cut shorts down the runway.
Anna Wintour, Anna Dello Russo and Victoria’s husband David Beckham all sat front row, with the star overcome with emotion when she received riotous applause at the end of the presentation.
“There's a lot more to think about [with separates], and I wanted to challenge myself. Tailoring is so difficult, and I am incredibly particular about shoulders, so it has taken me a long time to come up with a perfect jacket,” she is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Guardian.
“I can't believe I cried. I'm not really a cryer. But this matters so much. It matters more than it probably should.”
Pierre Balmain will kick off proceedings today, with Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Betsey Johnson and Marc Jacobs also showing.
