[NEWS] I'VE NO POWER - 2

"If the state government wants to take over the water supply companies, they

should be willing to sell their stake as the concession agreements are still

valid legally until the agreements expire," he said.

Chin said the state government could bring the water companies to court if it

wanted to terminate the concession agreements due to any wrongdoings or

breach of contracts.

"This is my opinion. I don''t think the court will force me to terminate the

concession or take over water supply from the concessionaires," he said.

The concessionaires are Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd

(Splash), Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd

(Syabas) and Konsortium Abass Sdn Bhd (Abass).

On reports that owing to foreseeable water shortage in Selangor, 129 investment

projects were postponed, Chin said previously Syabas was reluctant to guarantee

to the proposed investments that there would be sufficient water supply once the

projects or factories were completed.
