KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- A Nigerian student was sentenced to six
months jail and one stroke of the cane at the Magistrates Court here today for
misappropriating money and overstaying in Malaysia.
Oladare Rasheed Kayode, 26, was charged with dishonestly misappropriating
RM5,000 which was deposited by consultant Fatimah Abu Bakar, 64, into the bank
account of Aisiah Idris, 52, an unemployed woman, on April 24 in Sentul.
He had also overstayed the social visit pass allowed him between May 4 and
17, 2012.
He was charged under the Penal Code and Immigration Act for the offences.
Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Malini Anne prosecuted and Oladare was
represented by Wan Azmir Wan Majid.

In the same court, a Nigerian businessman pleaded not guilty to
misappropriating RM31,000 deposited by Fatimah into his 31 year-old wife
Jasvinder Kaur''s account last month.
Okalie Francis Abua, 30, allegedly committed the offence on April 27 and was
charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code and faces up to five years in
prison, caning and fine upon conviction.
Magistrate Nur Azura Murah allowed bail at RM15,000 with one surety and
ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station every fortnight and
for his passport to be impounded.
M.Tharuma Ratnam represented Okalie and remention was fixed for July 10.
