KOTA BAHARU, July 25 (Bernama) -- PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz

Nik Mat said the party would definitely implement hudud law although there were

objections to this including from DAP, a partner in the opposition group.

Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan Menteri Besar, said all quarters were aware

of PAS'' intention to implement hudud, particularly in Kelantan.

He said there was no reason for PAS not to do something in the interest of

Islam although there were parties which disagreed to it.

"I don''t think I should mention this the second time, as it (the proposal)

had been made a long time ago and everybody knows about it," he told reporters

after chairing a state executive council meeting, here, today.

He was earlier asked about the conflicting stand between PAS and DAP on the

setting up of an Islamic state and the implementation of hudud.

NIK AZIZ-HUDUD 2 (LAST) KOTA BAHARU

DAP chairman Karpal Singh was reported to have asked PAS leaders not to

raise the Islamic state issue anymore as it could derail the oppposition''s plan

to capture Putrajaya.

Nik Aziz said if the death sentence by hanging could be accepted by all

quarters, there was no reason for implementation of hudud to be rejected.

"It''s strange that people are against hudud. Isn''t it in Malaysia many

people have been sent to the gallows, with the convicted persons'' wives becoming

widows and children losing their fathers and the families'' bread winners?

"But hudud does not send people to their death. Even if you want to cut off

their hands, there are several conditions placed," he said.
