Nik Aziz losing grip on reality, Utusan says

    By Yow Hong Chieh

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — Utusan Malaysia took pot shots today at Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s advanced age, saying the elderly PAS spiritual adviser’s decision to run in the coming polls was proof that he was senile and had lost touch with reality.

Making ample reference to Nik Aziz’s age, the Umno-controlled daily claimed that this showed the octogenarian still had a “lust for power” despite holding the post of Kelantan mentri besar for four terms, or more than 21 years.

“Who would’ve thought that despite his advanced age, Nik Aziz (picture) still desires his post. Word is, he has hearing problems and his mind is no longer sharp, so it’s hard to brief him,” the paper said in its Awang Selamat column.

“His statements too are often confusing, and do not reflect his position as mentri besar and PAS spiritual leader. And that is before touching on the question of his administration’s weak performance.”

The editorial noted that even Malaysia’s longest-serving prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad — whom Nik Aziz had criticised for staying in power for too long — knew when to step down despite calls for the Umno strongman to remain.

Dr Mahathir remained firm in his decision to retire from active politics even though “a majority of the people still needed his leadership” and many supporters had tried to change his mind, it pointed out.

“If Dr Mahathir, who isn’t associated with the ulama image, has the confidence to step down and not hold on to his post indefinitely, why can’t Nik Aziz do the same?” it said.

Utusan Malaysia went on to question if Nik Aziz had no confidence in the next generation of PAS leaders, and asked if his successors were “terrible”, “stupid” or too “corrupt” for the job.

“Awang truly pities Nik Aziz. He has lost the ability to reflect and understand reality. Whatever it is, power makes people complacent. If Tok Guru is satisfied, why care? Just carry on,” it said.

On Friday, Nik Aziz, who first stood as a PAS candidate in a 1967 by-election, announced that he would run in the coming general election, rejecting Umno pressure on him to relinquish his spot.

The 81-year-old leader continues to be popular both in the state and nationally, where he is often considered the face of the Islamist party and its brand of Islam.

Umno has tasked federal minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed with wresting back the state of Kelantan, which it lost to PAS in Election 1990.

Both Malay parties have embarked on aggressive campaigns to promote their respective candidates for the state’s top spot ahead of the anticipated general election.

Sudah-lah. Kredibiliti PAS adalah ZERO. Bertambah ceramuklah dengan keputusan Nik Aziz. Dahulu Nik Aziz cemuh Tun Dr Mahathir gila kuasa tak mahu berunder. Hari ini Allah Taala tunjukkan kepada semua siapa yang sebenarnya gila kuasa.

could u please mind yr words before writing comment? do comment based on facts, reality, not ur uncontrollable brain. if u say UMNO affiliates with ur so-called devil (i guess ur mean MCA, MIC), then PAS also the same. PAS now also affiliate with DAP, PKR.. and DAP was the only one who object the HUDUD LAW..then why PAS still affiliate with DAP, PKR ? MIND YOUR WORDS BEFORE STATING COMMENT or ELSE YOU JUST SHOW UR STUPIDITY. don't simply label any organization with rude nor abusive words. Salam Damai.

It's not Tok Guru who is losing grip.. It's Datuk Mustapha Mamat who is feeling the heat. During PRU 12, Datuk Awang Adek was given the task to win over Kelantan (go against Tok Guru) but then he was rejected by the people, lost DUN and Parlimen seat both at the same time and almost killed his political career.

Now, Datuk Mustapha is feeling the same heat if not even hotter. UMNO is losing grip with people that is why all these slanderous accusation by utusan. UMNO is shadowed by possible dejavu, may be this time Datuk Mustapha will lose his DUN and Parlimen seat at the same time.

As long as Tok Guru Nik Aziz is around UMNO chance in Kelantan is bleak. You people outside Kelantan may say what ever you wish but that is the fact. PAS know it, UMNO know it and Kelantanese know it. What ever you do or say, in the end of the day even UMNO supporters in Kelantan vote for PAS when PRU13 come.

Another thing, Datuk Mustapha don't even dare to contest DUN or Parliment seat of his birthplace Bachok, instead he contest in Jeli where there are lots of 'orang asli' votes. Beras 1 guni and gula 1 kampit.. valla! votes are yours.

I know this Datuk Mustapha personally and I know his uncle who took care of him when he was a child but now he won't stay for 15 minutes when he visits him. I'm not saying he is not a good person but I can promise you even his uncle's children won't vote for him.

Keep on dreaming guys as PAS will rule Kelantan for a long long time. We Malaysians support PAS in Kelantan and all other States !

Mahatahi steped down because he had corrupted enough and also to protect his image and his billionaire son, not because he is old. Even when our country was still in financial difficulty, he still choosed to resign. What does he care about us? All he cares is his own pocket. Look at him now. Brought down Badawi, controlling Najib and merepet sana sini as if he is still the PM. Does he looks like he is old? Stop your nonsense, Utusan. We are not stupid anymore.

Kalau Tok Guru dah tua dan xleh memimpin Kelantan, ianya satu kelebihan pada UMNO. Suruh la PM lawan Tok Guru di Kelantan, Kita tengok sapa yang kalah nanti.
    • Alexia  •  3 months ago
Why is Utusan(i.e. PERKASA, UMNO) so worried about the Tok Guru?

Just do your job and bring news to the public...if you have nothing else to do go to the PUB and enjoy yourself.
