KOTA BAHARU, May 7 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz
Nik Mat today claimed that the National Fatwa Committee was showing bias in
issuing an edict that Muslims are forbidden from taking part in demonstrations
that could lead to riots and chaos.
In a statement issued in his Facebook account, Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also
PAS spiritual leader, said the edict was issued using "just one eye".
"I would like to ask, what can be more peaceful than a sit-in
demonstration," he said in the statement.
Yesterday, the National Fatwa Committee, at its 99th meeting held in Sepang,
decided that it is "haram" (not permissible) for Muslims to participate in any
gathering or demonstration that is unproductive, is against the law or causes
disturbance in the country.
Nik Aziz prior to this had issued his own "fatwa" allowing Muslims to join
illegal assemblies, which came under fire from religious figures including form
his own state.
