NIKON HOSTS 'SAVE MALAYSIAN TURTLES' MEDIA RETREAT

KUANTAN, May 25 (Bernama) -- The picturesque beaches at Cherating in Kuantan

recently welcomed 40 members from various media organisations when Nikon

Malaysia hosted its Media Retreat 2011 on May 6-8 at the Impiana Resort.

The 40 journalists and photographers enjoyed the three-day, two-night

retreat/workshop held to foster good relations between Nikon and the media.

The theme of the retreat was ''Save the Malaysian Turtles,'' with Nikon

Malaysia organising a special visit for media members to the Cherating Turtle

    Sanctuary.

The participating journalists and photographers had the opportunity to learn

about the conservation efforts being undertaken for Malaysian turtles that are

    slowly becoming extinct.

They also released about 100 newly-hatched turtles into the sea. Later in

the night, the media members were taken on a 15-minute journey to Pantai Teluk

Mak Nik at the Terengganu coast to watch green turtles lay eggs.

At the beach, journalists witnessed two giant turtles quietly laying their

eggs. It was a memorable moment that perfectly captured how Mother Nature works.

"When we planned this Media Retreat, we wanted to play a role in saving the

turtles from extinction. The visit to the Turtle Sanctuary was an eye-opener. It

was my first visit as well.

"Nikon Malaysia is happy to be part of this important environmental

endeavour to create awareness for the preservation of Malaysian turtles", said

David Ng, general manager for Nikon Malaysia.

    HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE

At the retreat, journalists and photographers were also given a presentation

on Nikon’s range of Digital SLR cameras, lenses and Digital Compact cameras

    (Coolpix models).

They were introduced to the newly-launched Nikon Club and the current Nikon

    Professional Services (NPS) as well.

The Nikon Club is exclusively for Nikon product owners. It provides owners

an experience that goes beyond owning Nikon cameras.

Nikon Club Malaysia enables users to connect with one another to share

photos, and is an exclusive platform for Nikon users to express their passion

    through photography.

Members of the club also benefit from various services provided by Nikon

Malaysia. Registration is free for all Nikon users at www.nikonclub.com.my.

"At the retreat in Cherating, we took the opportunity to introduce, once

again, our Nikon Professional Services (NPS), since we are dedicated to

providing support to professional photographers whenever they face any technical

problems with their equipment", said Mahfooz NR, the Nikon professional service

manager for the Consumer Products Department.

NPS was established by Nikon to serve professional photographers around the

world, and is dedicated to providing support to professional photographers and

their specialist needs. The service is beneficial for press photographers who

are always busy with assignments and depend on top-performance cameras to do

    their jobs.

On the second day of the retreat, Nikon invited Zainal Halim, a former

professional photographer with Reuters, to share his experiences with the

    participants.

Zainal showed several breathtaking photographs taken during his travels

through West Asia. He also showed his infamous snapshots of French climber Alain

Robert, who scaled the top of the KLCC’s Petronas Twin Towers on Merdeka Day a

    few years ago.

    MEDIA CONTEST

Media members were also treated to a fun video-shooting contest.

They were grouped into six different teams and given new Nikon D5100 cameras

and Coolpix P300s to shoot the most creative and exciting videos using the FULL

HD video recording capability of the D5100.

Journalists also participated in traditional handicraft activities, such as

making the ''wau'' (traditional Malay kite) and batik painting, at the outdoor

area of the Impiana Resort Cherating.

The Nikon Digital SLR camera D5100 was launched on April 5. It has special

features, such as full-HD movie recording and a vari-angle LCD monitor that

enables users to capture images from unique angles.

The Nikon D5100 also offers a special effects mode, which allows

photographers to select colours and colour sketch effects. This feature makes

this particular DSLR model different from other Nikon cameras.

With the success of this retreat -- the first one held in Port Dickson --

Nikon Malaysia is looking forward to organising another media retreat in the

    near future.
