Nissan raises green tech awareness with UCSI University

Nissan held an online contest where students with the most create posts about the Nissan LEAF walked away with some amazing prizes.

Creating awareness for green technology here in Malaysia is especially beneficial towards school and college students. Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd. conducted a Nissan LEAF showcase recently at UCSI University. During this showcase, university students and lecturers were given the opportunity to ride in the all-electric Nissan LEAF in order for them to experience the feeling of travelling in an electric car.

In conjunction with this showcase, a contest was held where students had to submit a creative photo of themselves with a Nissan LEAF and a caption which best described the car. It then had to be posted on the UCSI facebook page. This contest was held for two weeks and after which, 10 lucky UCSI students walked away with prizes.

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony which was held at the Nissan’s showroom in Raja Laut, Dato’ Dr. Ang Bong Beng, Executive Director of ETCM said, “We look forward to future collaborations with UCSI University in our quest for a better environment. We believe in creating awareness especially among the younger generation about the importance and benefit of embracing green technology and innovation.”

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Lim Koon Ong, deputy vice-chancellor of UCSI University said at the event that he believes that blended learning- a fusion of classroom instruction and online extensions is a definitive way to enrich the learning experience of today’s Gen-Y learners.

The grand prize winner of this facebook contest was Derric Ong from the Faculty of Engineering, Technology & Built Environment. He emerged victories because of his winning post which read “What if you could drive the future, today? What if you could check on your car from your phone and switch on the air-conditioning remotely? What if you could drive with zero-emission and never had to stop at a gas station again? And what if your everyday car was an electric car? Nissan Leaf. The future is yours.”

Exposure at a young age to technology that will not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also simplify the way we travel will later on allow us to come up with ideas that will give birth to substantially greater technological breakthroughs than what we have seen so far. At least that’s what Nissan hope the students will take back from this event, but it also shows the direction in which Nissan is heading towards in the near future.
