Avatar: The Exhibition consists of a collection of artifacts, props and costumes from the all-time biggest blockbuster film. Organized with director James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment, the show brings the imaginative world of Pandora to life off the screen. An actual Armored Mobility Platform suit from combat scenes and the original, handmade models of the Na'vi characters and their wardrobes will be on display. Visitors will experience interactive installations of motion capture, virtual and 3D technologies in film. Set to travel to other arts and cultural institutions in the US and around the world.

MTV Movie Awards recognize Best Actor and Best Film, as well as Best Kiss, Best Villian and other cheeky categories, voted on by fans until June 4. Reality show producer Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice) produces the event at the Gibson Amphitheater airing live at 9 pm ET with a strong showing of nominated stars expected, such as Johnny Depp who has attended and Tom Cruise who performed last year with Jennifer Lopez.

Since 1995, the Electronic Entertainment Expo has grown into the largest US convention for the computer and video game industry, including software developers, retailers and Hollywood representatives. Companies from Nintendo to Sony show off their new games and showcase the latest technology and software. After a record 70,000 attendees in 2005, it turned into an invite-only event for a few thousand from more than 80 countries at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Another similar event is the International Conference on Computer Games Multimedia (CGAT), scheduled this year in Malaysia.

10th Bonnaroo Festival

Tennessee's four-day Bonnaroo Festival draws nearly 90,000 people to Great Stage Park, a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. Headliners include Eminem and Lil Wayne and Canadian rock band Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Robert Plant & Band of Joy, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, The Decemberists, Widespread Panic, My Morning Jacket, Scissor Sisters, and dozens more, including Buffalo Springfield (featuring Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Richie Furay, Rick Rosas and Joe Vitale). It is the top-grossing festival in North America, joining Lollapalooza and Coachella, Rockskilde in Europe and others. Bonnaroo tickets are priced at $249.50 (€171).

The de Young hosts an exhibition of more than 100 paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints drawn from every phase of the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso's career. The rare exhibit is possible due to the temporary closure of the Musée Picasso in Paris until 2012 for renovations. It covers the artist's range of style including La Celestine (1904) from the Blue Period, Two Brothers (1906) from the Rose Period, the expressionist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), Cubist Man with a Guitar (1911), neoclassical Portrait of Olga (1917), six Surrealist bronze heads of the artist's mistress, Marie-Therese Walter, (1950), and the late self-portrait, The Matador (1970).

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier

For the 35th anniversary of fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, the first retrospective devoted to the couturier spans selections from his 1976 ready-to-wear collection to 120 dresses from his haute couture firm in 1997. The exhibition celebrates the refined avant-garde style and ties with music (Madonna, Lady Gaga), cinema (Luc Besson, Pedro Almodóvar), dance, theater, and television with clips of films, concerts, ballets, and fashion shows. Photography features images of Andy Warhol, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, and Robert Doisneau. The show travels to the Dallas Museum of Art in November.

Also South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour, DeeDee Bridgewater, Jean-Luc Ponty, Steel Pulse and Bootsy Collins. Robert Plant kicks it off.
