NUBE MEMBERS LODGE POLICE REPORT ON SACKING OF UNION VP, TREASURER

MELAKA, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Members of the Melaka branch of the National

Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) today lodged a police report on the dismissal of

the union''s vice-president Abdul Jamil Jalaludeen and treasurer-general Chen Ka

Fatt as Maybank employees on Jan 31.

The report was lodged by the NUBE southern branch treasurer, Kamarudin

Bujang together with four other members of the union at the Banda Hilir District

    Police Station, here.

They asked the authorities to investigate the Maybank senior official who

was alleged to have sacked the two individuals and made threats to other Maybank

staff not to picket against the bank.

Kamarudin, who represents 1,000 members of the union in Melaka claimed that

Abdul Jamil, who worked at the Penang Maybank branch, and Chen, from the Ipoh

branch, were sacked on grounds that they had held a banner outside the United

Nations (UN) building and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva

last year and which was carried by the union''s website.

"The grounds for the dismissal are irrelevant...the incident occurred a long

time ago. They were sacked merely because of their picture that was taken while

picketing to demand 80 months bonus for Maybank staff for the past 10 years.

"So, we as members of the NUBE hope that the sacking could be revoked and

negotiations could be held immediately to resolve the existing problem," he told

    Bernama here.
