PKR's Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has sent a letter to Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, pursuing her bid for a debate to rebut his allegations about her.
Her aide Fahmi Fadzil (left) said the letter was sent this morning to his office at the Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Ministry in Putrajaya, where assistant secretary-general Khalilul Rahman Kamaruzaman accepted it.
Raja Nong Chik, who heads the ministry and Lembah Pantai Umno, is likely to contest the parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.
Fahmi said the proposed date for the debate is Feb 24, and the venue is at the Pantai Permai apartments in Pantai Dalam.
"We sent the (letter) because Raja Nong Chik had alleged that Nurul Izzah does not do anything in her constituency. This is serious. Based on our records, she has resolved many problems," Fahmi told Malaysiakini.
"Raja Nong Chik's (right) allegation was made via the mainstream media which provides a wide platform for him to make such statements ..."
Fahmi said the debate, should it take place, will be moderated by an academician and that the scope could include both local and national issues.
Nurul Izzah had thrown down the gauntlet to Raja Nong Chik on Feb 8 to debate his claim that she spends more time criticising him than serving the people of Lembah Pantai.
Raja Nong Chik had rejected the challenge, citing the fact that the polls are imminent.
