Rebecca Soni Biography
Soni will compete in the 100 meter and 200 breaststroke in London, her second Olympics. She cruised to an easy win in the 200 at the trials, finishing in 2:21.13, the fastest time in the world this year. She was the prohibitive favorite in the 100, but placed second to unheralded Breeja Larson in a stunning result. Soni will be looking to defend her Olympic title from the 200 breast in Beijing, where she set a world record. She also won silver medals in the 100 breast and the 400 medley relay in China. Soni has won 19 medals in major international competition, including 12 gold. The New Jersey native had a brilliant performance at the 2011 world championships, winning gold in the 100 and 200 breast and the 4x100 medley relay while also claiming bronze in the 50 breast. She defended her titles in the 100 and 200 breast at the 2010 nationals. Soni, who is dating fellow breaststroker and Olympian Ricky Berens, won Swimming World's World Swimmer of the Year award in 2010 and 2011.
