Shiwen Ye Biography

Ye will represent China in London at the tender age of 16 thanks in large part to the big splash she made at the 2011 world championships by winning the 200 meter medley. Ye actually began making a name for herself one year earlier at the Guangzhou Asian Games, where she won the 200 and 400 individual medley events. Her time in the 200 was the fastest in the world in 2010. Ye has been passionate about the sport since the age of 6, when she started swimming after her kindergarten teacher noticed she had the advantage of large hands. She made Zhejang's provincial swimming team in 2007 and was selected to the national squad the following year.
