Shannon Rowbury Biography
Rowbury seems to have put a difficult 2011 behind her, and heads into the 2012 Games as one of the favorites to medal in the 1,500. This will be her second Olympic appearance after running the 1,500 at the Beijing Games in 4:03.58 to take seventh place - the best finish by an American woman at the modern Olympics. Rowbury, the U.S. outdoor champ in 2008 and ’09, followed up that performance by taking the bronze in the 2009 world championships with a time of 4:04.18. Things didn't go quite as smoothly in 2011, when she suffered a pair of injuries and dealt with the deaths of her grandmother and Duke teammate Sally Meyerhoff, and didn't qualify for the finals at the world championships. She has since regrouped, and qualified for London by finishing second at the U.S. trials with a time of 4:05.11. "I’m so ecstatic to make the team and represent USA," Rowbury said. "Relief has to be the biggest emotion." At Duke, Rowbury was a six-time All-American and was the NCAA champion in the mile in 2007.
