KUALA LUMPUR: A man shot dead on Tuesday night while trying to stage a robbery at an Internet cafe in Taman Len Seng, Cheras, with an accomplice, had four criminal records and had been detained for drug-related offences.
City deputy CID chief Khairi Ahrasa said police had identified the 32-year-old man.
"A manhunt has also been launched to locate his accomplice who fled the scene," he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters yesterday. Khairi said police found seven tubes of heroin on the man.
During the incident, the duo, armed with parang, ordered the female caretaker to hand over the cash. However, she panicked and screamed for help.
Policemen in the area heard her screams and managed to arrest one of the robbers when they came out of the Internet cafe.
The other man tried to help his partner by charging at the policemen with a parang, forcing them to open fire.
The man, who was shot in the chest, died on the spot. The other suspect managed to escape.
