TEMERLOH, July 27 (Bernama) -- PAS leaders and party members need to accept
the fact that their ally in the opposition coalition, DAP, has never recognised
Malaysia as a Muslim country.
Umno Information Chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the DAP will also not allow
PAS to implement hudud laws should the coalition take over the country''s
administration.
DAP leaders Karpal Singh and Lim Kit Siang, during their debate in
Parliament, emphasised that Malaysia was a secular country with a multi-racial
population although former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad told the
Parliament sitting that Malaysia was a Muslim country, said Ahmad.
He was met by reporters after presenting phase two of the payment of the
"windfall" to 935 wives of Felda Lakum and Bukit Damar settlers, here.
Commenting further, Ahmad who is also Deputy Minister in the Prime
Minister''s Department, said the hudud and Muslim country issue will continue to
become sources of disputes in the opposition coalition.
"PAS leaders need to maintain their efforts to implement the hudud so they
don''t lose their supporters, and this also goes for DAP which has rejected the
law," he added.
