Police have completed their investigations into the controversial nude sports event that was held at the Teluk Kampi beach, located in Teluk Bahang national park.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said they submitted the investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers today.

"We made certain recommendations. It is now up to the Attorney-General to decide the next course of action," he said.

Mazlan, however, declined to reveal details of the police's recommendations.

He said so far, nine of the 15 suspects have surrendered to the police to assist in the investigations.

Eight of them are Malaysians, including two with permanent resident status in Singapore, while the fifth suspect is a Singaporean.

He said the suspects would be released today as their remand order expired today.

"We are not applying for an extension. They will all be released on police bail," Mazlan said.

He said the police are still looking for the remaining six participants of the nude event.

They are Singaporean doctor known to the police as Terry, who is in his 30s; Malaysian James Kumar, 40s, who works at the Changi Airport; Malaysian Michael, who is in his 30s; Filipino Marvin Cuevas, 40s; and Burmese Newman and his girlfriend, who are in their 30s.

Mazlan said the police was also working with Interpol to locate the whereabouts of the foreigners.

Last week, the nine surrendered to the police at the Southwest district police headquarters in Balik Pulau separately.

The suspects allegedly took part in a "nude sports" event held on a secluded beach at Teluk Kampi in the Teluk Bahang national park on May 30.

It was reported that some of them also attended another nude event at a homestay in a durian orchard in Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau, on May 31 and June 1, and later an international naturists gathering in Pattaya, Thailand from June 6 to 8.

Police began investigating the incident after the video of the event went viral and prompted several groups and individuals to lodge police reports.

The case was investigated under Sections 294a and 509 of the Penal Code.

Section 294a states that a person committing an obscene act in a public place can be jailed three months, fined or both, while Section 509 states that a person guilty of using a word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of another can end up five years in jail, fined or both. – August 19, 2014.
