PENANG POLICE GET COURT ORDER TO STOP ILLEGAL GATHERINGS TOMORROW

GEORGE TOWN, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Penang police today issued a stern

warning to anyone who intends to join two illegal gatherings planned at Tapak

Pesta Sungai Nibong and Tapak Expo Seberang Jaya at 8pm tomorrow.

Penang police chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob said the two gatherings had links with

the illegal assembly to be held on July 9.

"We have obtained a court order from the magistrate''s court, a notice to

prohibit tomorrow''s gatherings, which we had also passed on to the organisers

and patch it at both locations," he told a press conference here.

Ayub said police would use their power in accordance with the law to stop

the gatherings and reminded that anybody who participated in the gatherings were

subjected to police action.

He said it was understood that the Coalition for Clean and Fair Election

chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan would attend both gatherings.

In another development, Ayub refuted claims that police had mistreated 30

supporters of the July 9 assembly who were remanded until Saturday.

"We are concerned about their welfare and health. We even take three of them

to the hospital for treatment of flu and cough," he said.
