IPOH, May 9 (Bernama) -- The state government has allocated RM60,000 for the
development of pupils in 134 National Type Tamil Primary Schools in Perak.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said, of the total, RM30,000
was for organising annual inter-school sporting events.
The rest was for conducting clinics for Primary School Evaluation Test
(UPSR) to prepare the pupils for UPSR this year, he said in his speech during a
dinner for teachers of SJKTs in Perak at his residence, last night.
Also present were State Education, Higher Education, ICT, Science and
Technology Committee Chairman Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid and the Menteri
Besar''s Adviser on Indian Affairs, Datuk S. Veerasingam.
He said the allocation would be handed to the State Tamil School Head
Masters Council for distribution.

Currently, there were 16,000 pupils enrolled at SJKTs in Perak. Of the
total, 2,300 pupils would sit for UPSR this year.
Meanwhile, Zambry urged teachers to identify pupils who were without birth
certificates and to report them to the State Education Department.
"We will ensure they are issued with birth certificates to apply for
identity cards which will enable them to live like normal people," he added.
