Philippines to compete in India's Nehru Cup in August

The Filipino national team is set to compete in India's Nehru Cup next month, Philippines Football Federation (PFF) president Mariano Nonong Araneta has revealed.

The Azkals will use this tournament to prepare for the much awaited Suzuki Cup in November and December and will face the likes of Jordan, Kenya, Syria and host country India in the five-nation cup.

"Organisers have informed us, through Fifa's Domeka Garamendi, that they want the Philippines to join the Nehru Cup,” Araneta told the Philstar.

“It's only a matter of formality for us. We told them to just send us a formal invite and we'll accept it.”

Camps in United States, Middle East and Japan have already been set up by the PFF before the Suzuki Cup, while friendlies against Indonesia and Vietnam and October's proposed Long Teng Cup also could be added to Philippines' preparation for the tournament.

The Suzuki Cup will be played between November 24 and December 22 in Malaysia and Thailand.
