He assured himself a spot in Ukraine's pantheon of management greats by reaching the last eight of the 2006 World Cup, but resigned a year later, after failing to qualify for the 2008 World Cup. He was re-hired in 2011, in the hopes he can resurrect some of his old magic in the tournament Ukraine is co-hosting.
