Naming your child is important, but you might want to check this list before you choose a moniker for your little one to make sure it hasn't been banned. From obscene to just plain bizarre, these are the illegal baby names from around the world.

Titeuf (France)

In February 2012, a French court ruled against a couple who wished to name their son Titeuf, after the star of a popular cartoon in France. The judge decreed that using the name of a comedy character would "attract mockery" and could risk "constituting a real handicap for a child becoming an adolescent and then an adult”.

Has France banned any other names? The Civil Code prohibits names that would be "contrary to the interests of a child". But in November 2011, a couple won their case for naming their son Daemon, after Damon from ‘The Vampire Diaries’, dispelling supposed satanic connotations. And in 2000 a girl was legally named Megane Renaud, despite similarities to the Renault car. less
