PICNIC TURNS TO TRAGEDY FOR 20-YEAR-OLD IN BEKELAH

KUANTAN, May 28 (Bernama) -- A 20-year-old who had gone to the Bekelah

Forest Reserve in Paya Bungor, near Gambang with his friends for a picnic

yesterday afternoon, drowned while swimming at the recreational site.

The body of the victim, who drowned at 11.30am, was found at 5.05pm

yesterday by a search and rescue team from the Fire and Rescue Department from

Kuantan, Taman Tas and Gebeng.

According to Pahang CID Liaison Officer ASP Noor Asyikin, the victim, Mohd

Hafeez Bahari from Kampung Jawa, Kuantan had gone to the recreational site with

seven of his friends for a picnic.

"While they were playing in the water, the victim was seen struggling in the

water but attempts by his friends to save him was unsuccessful," she told

Bernama here, today.

"The victim''s body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan

for a post-mortem," she added.
