A police trainee who was undergoing training at the police training centre (PULAPOL) delivered a baby girl in a toilet at a hospital yesterday, three months after she was tested negative for pregnancy.

A source said the trainee, delivered her baby in a toilet of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 11am. Both mother and child are in good health.

It is, however, not known how long the trainee, attached to the 11th platoon, was to train at the PULAPOL in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur.

It is understood that the woman had undergone a pregnancy test in January at the same hospital and the test result came out negative.

Kuala Lumpur police CID deputy chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa said police has received a report on the case and an inquiry will be held.

A source said that although there is no criminal element in the case, the trainee will be facing the disciplinary board and be investigated for concealing information on her pregnancy, which resulted in her being taken in as a cadet.

Crime watchdog, MyWatch chairman R. Sri Sanjeevan said such a "slip up" should never have occurred as the trainee would not only cause harm to herself but also to the baby she carried.

"Police should explain how she was cleared of pregnancy by the hospital and how this went undetected at the training centre until she gave birth yesterday," said Sanjeevan.

PULAPOL commandant Datuk Nahariah Hussein has yet to return calls or respond to messages sent to her. – April 16, 2014.
