KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Police have crippled a motorcycle theft
gang, known as "Geng Wan Tongek" which has been active in Ampang, with the
arrest of three men last Wednesday.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin said the
suspects, who are unemployed and aged between 19 and 25, were detained in a raid
at a premises, believed to be used as an illegal workshop, in Kampung Indah.
Eight motorcycles, 11 motorcycle frames and various motorcycle components,
believed to be stolen, were seized during the raid, he told a media conference
here today.
Initial police investigations revealed that the suspects had just been
released under the Emergency Ordinance two months ago.
Amiruddin said that with the arrest of the suspects, police believed they
had been able to resolve 10 cases of motorcycle theft which were reported in
Ampang Jaya since six months ago.

They would be in remand until Sunday to assist police investigation under
Section 29(1) of the Penal Code, he added.
In another development, Amiruddin said the Ampang Jaya police also crippled
a syndicate believed to responsible for several house-breaking case with the
arrest of three men in a house at Taman Bukit Cheras yesterday.
Various stolen items, including laptops, handphones, camera, watches, credit
cards and car keys were seized from the house, he added.
He said police also recovered two Naza Ria cars which were reported stolen
in Ampang.
All the suspects had previous records and tested positive for drug, he
added.
