POLICE-MEDIA COOPERATION IMPORTANT IN CURBING CRIME

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Cooperation between the police and the

media is important to the police in combating crime, said Kuala Lumpur police

chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh.

He said media reports on police''s successes in fighting crime would enhance

their image and credibility in the eyes of the society, thus raising public

confidence on their safety and security.

"I hope this cooperation will continue," he said at a dinner in honour of

the media and the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) hosted by Kuala

Lumpur police here tonight.

Mohmad called on the media to publish clear, balanced and accurate reports

on a particular issue.

Describing the police ties with MCPF is getting closer, he hoped other

non-governmental organisations would emulate MCPF in supporting police

activities in an effort to reduce crime and enhance the quality of life in the

capital.

MCPF chairman Datuk William Lim and Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk

Amar Singh Ishar Singh were present.
