SEREMBAN, July 31 (Bernama) -- A man drove straight into the long arm of the
law when he was allegedly found in possession of ecstasy pills worth about
RM800,000 at the 260km North-South Expressway early today.
A team of Bukit Aman Highway Patrol policemen seized the 4.9kg of drug in
the car of the suspected drug trafficker when they flagged down the vehicle near
the Port Dickson toll plaza.
It is learnt the 40-year-old suspect was enroute to delivering the
consignment of 15,000 ecstasy pills to a ready market when he was nabbed at
2.45am.
State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Supt Baharom Othman
said the drug in 30 plastic packets was worth about RM800,000 in street value.
"Preliminary investigations have revealed the suspect was from Melaka and
had four previous drug-related records.
He said the suspect would be remanded for four days, beginning today, to
facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act which
carried the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
