KUALA TERENGGANU, July 28 (Bernama) -- A police officer was nearly stabbed
by a criminal who turned aggressive when a team of police raided his residence
in Kampung Nibung here yesterday.
State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said in the 11.10am incident, a team of
police from the state police contingent headquarters had launched a raid on the
house of a suspect active in motorcycle thefts around the state.
He said when cornered to a room, the suspect became aggressive and tried to
stab a police officer who managed to ward off the attack before the suspect fled
to the back of the house which was surrounded by police.
"As police close in to arrest the suspect, he once again threatened police
with a knife.
"Confronted with his aggressive stance, police fired two shots and one of
them hit the suspect on the left thigh," he told reporters here today.

Investigations found the suspect who is still a bachelor had five previous
criminal records and police also recovered a stolen motorcyle from the store in
the house.
The suspect is now at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here for treatment.
