Cops search MH370 crew members’ homes, probe into Uighur passenger
Police have searched the homes of the crew members of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 as they investigate the disappearance of the aircraft.
On Tuesday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said investigators were focusing on four main angles for MH370's disappearance.
"Sabotage, hijack, personal differences between the crew and passengers and psychological problems of the crew and passengers." Khalid said, listing the angles.
Today, Harian Metro quoted Federal CID director Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah, who is leading the investigating team, as saying they had searched several houses.
The houses were the family homes of the pilots and crew members of MH370, as police pursue the sabotage angle.
Harian Metro also reported that one of the passengers aboard MH370 was of Uighur descent and police were also looking at his background.
China has supplied Malaysia with the photographs and profiles of the 152 Chinese nationals onboard MH370.
Harian Metro quoted an anonymous source as saying that police were interested in the 35-year-old passenger because of his background.
"The passenger is not necessarily involved in terrorism, or sabotage or hijack," the source told Harian Metro.
"It is because of his Uighur background that authorities have taken a keen interest in him," the source said.
The Uighurs are an ethnic group primarily living in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in China.
It has been reported that the group killed at least 29 people and wounded 143 with long knives and daggers, in the Kunming railway station on March 1.
The suspects were allegedly Muslim separatist militants from the western region of Xinjiang, suspected to be of Uighur descent.
The passenger's online curriculum vitae (CV) indicates that he is a PhD holder and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at a Turkish university. – March 13, 2014.
