GEORGE TOWN, July 11 (Bernama) -- The police are on the trail of two snatch thieves who caused the death of a widow while committing the crime near the Rifle Range flats here yesterday.
In the incident, Tan Kim Chuan, 60, was walking alone by a road near Block J of the flats when her handbag was snatched, causing her to be dragged for several metres.
Following the incident which occurred about 6am, Tan, who sustained head injuries, was sent to the Penang Hospital where she underwent an operation.
She was pronounced dead about 4pm.
State CID deputy chief ACP Mohd Nasir Salleh said today, the police were scouring the profiles of those linked to past snatch thefts to facilitate investigations.
He said a closed-circuit television camera footage was being studied by the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman to zero in on the two snatch thieves.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 – Putrajaya does not approve a campaign to boycott Chinese businesses initiated by pro-Umno bloggers and backed by several Muslim groups, Datuk Hasan Malek said today but the new Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism minister added that he cannot block their right to do so.
