POOR RESPONSE TO SUBSIDISED MAMMOGRAM TESTS IN TERENGGANU

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The distance to Mammogram Test Centres

in Pahang and lack of confidence among women were identified as factors for the

poor response for the subsidised Mammogram Test Programme in Terengganu.

State National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) director Nur

Farhana Lee Mohd Zulkiflee said women who registered for the screening were sent

to the Kuantan Medical Center (KMC) in Pahang for the test.

"Although, transportation is provided free, the registration for the

mammogram screening test is still low," she told Bernama here today.

She said since Jan 1, only 219 women had registered, undergone the test and

declared cancer free but the number is way below other states, where thousands

had applied for the test during the same period.

She said, to date, no private hospital in Terengganu met the criteria set by

LPPKN and the Health Ministry to become Private Mammogram Centres.

Nur Farhana said the Terengganu LPPKN now had a bus which has been modified

into a mobile clinic, providing health services like glucose and cholesterol

tests, pap smear test and registration for subsidised mammogram programme.
