Pre-match handshake between Manchester United and Liverpool to go ahead

The Premier League will not scrap the pre-match handshake between Manchester United and Liverpool as Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez look set to face each other for the first time since the striker alleged racially abused the Frenchman.

It was thought that the league officials would replicate the events of Chelsea’s trip to QPR, were a similar tension between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand resulted in the cancellation of the practice completely.

However, it has been decided that the handshake will go ahead.

The league officials have stated that any further avoidance would undermine the reasoning behind the ritual itself.

Evra and Suarez will meet on the pitch for the first time since the controversial events of October 15, which saw the Uruguayan handed an eight match ban after being charged with ‘racial aggravation’ towards the left-back.
