KOTA KINABALU, July 20 (Bernama) -- TEKUN Nasional should be proactive and

assist competitive small businesses enhance their operations.

In making the call, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin said many

small businesses in villages and housing areas lacked capital for expansion.

"Hence, TEKUN should identify them and extend loan to help their business

expansion," he said after receiving a call from the TAKUN Community of

Entrepreneurs Club of the Putatan Parliamentary, led by Chairman Sumita

Hassandi, at his office in Wisma Pertanian Sabah near here today.

Yahya who is State Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, said TEKUN should

assist small entrepreneurs who make traditional snacks at home and sell it at

weekly markets, housing areas and eateries because their skills had the

potential to be developed.

"TEKUN should bring these small entrepreneurs to the next level by helping

them in terms of guidance and capital," he said.

To date, TEKUN has assisted 267 entrepreneurs including 162 women in the

Putatan Parliamentary with loans totaling RM2.225 million.
