KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- Professionalism in teaching, the people''s
aspiration with regard to the education system, and the students'' outcome are
the main focus that must be given attention in efforts to transform national
education, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said these were the initial
findings from the eight series of the National Dialogue on Education involving
8,415 people from the various strata of society and educational backgrounds
including representatives of religious bodies that had been carried out so far.
He said there were five series of the dialogue yet to be held aimed at
getting information and public opinion needed to provide better direction for
national education in future.
"As such, I call on everyone to come forward to provide inputs and
constructive ideas in the interest of the national education system," he said
when replying to a question from Teng Boon Soon (BN-Tebrau) at the Dewan Rakyat
sitting today.
Teng had asked the Education Minister to state the direction that the
Education Ministry would take in efforts to transform the National Education
