KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Ogos — Persatuan Promosi Hak Asasi Manusia (Proham) hari ini memuji ketegasan perdana menteri (PM), Datuk Seri Najib Razak kerana ketegasan beliau dalam Pertubuhan Negara-Negara Islam Sedunia (OIC) mengenai isu pembunuhan beramai-ramai di Syria dan penghapusan etnik Rohingya di Myanmar selain menyokong kemasukan Palestin dalam Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB).

Menurut kenyataan media yang dihantar kepada The Malaysian Insider hari ini, ketegasan PM menunjukkan beliau “cakap serupa bikin” apabila menyokong OIC menggantung keahlian Syria setelah keganasan berlarutan di negara Teluk itu.

Proham juga mengkritik PBB kerana tidak tegas dalam menangani masalah itu dan menuntut ketegasan dari badan dunia tersebut.

Dalam masa sama, Proham juga mahu kerajaan untuk mengiktiraf piagam hak asasi manusia PBB tentang hak awam dan politik, kebudayaan, ekonomi dan sosial.

Katanya, Malaysia adalah salah sebuah negara yang masih belum mengiktiraf piagam tersebut, dan memandangkan negara ini adalah anggota OIC dan Asean, maka kerajaan perlu untuk memastikan kredibiliti negara dijaga.

“Proham mahu kerajaan untuk memperkukuhkan hak asasi manusia, supaya Malaysia dilihat sebagai sebuah negara yang konsisten dalam OIC dan menjadi gambaran yang baik kepada seluruh rakyat Malaysia.

“Dengan mengiktiraf piagam hak asasi manusia itu, Malaysia dapat memainkan peranan mereka dari peringkat Asean atau global sebagai sebuah negara yang menyokong dan mempertahankan hak asasi manusia untuk kepentingan nasional dan antarabangsa,” kata Proham yang diwakili oleh Tan Sri Simon Sipaun, Prof Hamdan Adnan, Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, Tan Sri Michael Yeoh dan Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria.

Semalam, OIC menggantung keahlian Syria dalam satu mesyuarat tergempar di Mekah, Arab Saudi. Najib turut hadir dalam mesyuarat tersebut mewakili Malaysia.
