    PUTRAJAYA CORPORATION REPAIRS BICYCLE LANE TO ENCOURAGE CYCLING ACTIVITIES

    PUTRAJAYA, Jan 14 (Bernama) - The bicycle lane in Putrajaya is being

    repaired as part of the efforts by Putrajaya Corporation to encourage cycling

    activities, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry Secretary-General

    Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib said today.

    He also said that an inspectorate team had been set up to monitor facilities

    and infrastructure for cycling in Putrajaya.

    "Putrajaya, which has a road network suitable for cycling, will soon be a

    well-known destination for cycling events.

    "Cycling can promote a healthy lifestyle, as well as encourage tourism

    activities here," he told reporters after flagging off a convoy of cyclists in

    conjunction with the "Fly the Flag" campaign for the 2012 Federal Territories

    Day here today.

    Ahmad Phesal said the Putrajaya Corporation would provide maps of the

    bicycle lane to the eight parks in Putrajaya, comprising the Botany Park, the

    Agricultural Heritage Park, the Wawasan Park, Wetland Park, Equestrian Park,

    Taman Putra Perdana, Taman Rimba Alam and Taman Selatan.

    He said plans were also afoot to carry out a cycling programme which would

    involve the participation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

    In a related development, Ahmad Phesal said the prime minister would open

    the Federal Territories Day celebration to be held at Dataran Merdeka Kuala

    Lumpur on Jan 28.

    Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is scheduled to close it on

    Feb 28, he added.
