Putrajaya lifts suspension on the Heat

Putrajaya tarik balik penggantungan The Heat

Putrajaya has lifted the suspension on weekly publication The Heat, more than a month after it was suspended for allegedly not informing the home ministry of changes in its ownership and refusal to respond to two show cause letters.

The Malaysian Insider understands the management was told today by the ministry that their suspension had been lifted with immediate effect.

According to the paper's sister news portal, The Ant Daily, the editor-in-chief David Lee said that they have received an official letter sent to the publisher, Satria Kiara Sdn Bhd dated January 24, allowing the paper to continue its operation without any changes to its current publishing permit.

The letter was signed by publications and Quranic text division head, Hashimah Nik Jaafar, on behalf of the Home Ministry's secretary-general.

The weekly was the first newspaper suspended by the Najib administration.

The last newspaper that received a suspension order was the Sarawak Tribune in 2007 for publishing images of Prophet Muhammad, which is banned in Islam.

Since it was taken off the shelves, starting with its December 21 issue, The Heat has found groundswell support from many journalists working in the alternative media, including online platforms. - January 27, 2014.
