KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- The capability and efficiency of school

leaders and teachers is one of the determining factors of the quality of

education in schools, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Myhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the frontliners needed to

set personal targets to become leaders in their respective capacities in or

outside of the classroom.

"The emphasis on leadership, teaching and learning aspects is appropriate

and should benefit those pursuing such noble values.

"Besides that, the involvement of parents in schools whether through the

Parent-Teacher Association or in a personal capacity should be refined so that

the spirit of responsibility towards the noble aspiration should jointly be

shouldered," he said in hi speech at the opening the "School Transformation

through Excellent Leadership" conference here today.

The text of his speech was read out by Education director-general Tan

Sri Abdul Ghafar Mahmud.

The three-day conference attended by about 200 teachers and counsellors

from more than 80 schools across the country was organised by Yayasan AMIR and

the PINTAR Foundation.
