PUTRAJAYA, April 30 (Bernama) -- The rally which turned chaotic on Saturday

when demonstrators breached police barricades at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala

Lumpur, hurt the tourism industry and disrupted the country''s economy.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said the rally had caused a

30-pax tour group from Indonesia to cancel its visit to Malaysia for security

reasons.

In addition, she said feedback from mainstream shopping centres and business

communities in the city centres showed losses incurred due to the rally.

"For example, traders in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Pertama Complex incurred

average losses of about RM20,000 to RM40,000.

"The Brickfields Business Council estimated that 100 retail outlets in

Brickfields saw a 50 per cent sales drop, or at least RM10,000 in losses. The

total losses are unknown," Dr Ng told reporters at a media conference on

Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia Sunday Bike Ride @ Raub here today.
