Serve cendol on flight, not beer, says Ridhuan Tee in listing lessons from MH370

Amid the frantic search for the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370, a pro-government Islamic talk-show host has drawn up a list of lessons to be learnt from this saga, including the advice that female flight attendants be allowed to don the hijab.

“It can also prevent hair from dropping on the food. Nothing wrong for a (Muslim) stewardess to cover her aurat (parts of body to be covered according to Islamic teachings) and for non-Muslims to dress modestly,” said Ridhuan Tee Abdullah in his Sinar Harian column today.

“It is annoying when a stewardess wears a short and see-through dress," said Ridhuan Tee, who had ruffled feathers with his right-wing views in support of the ruling party.

Ridhuan, in the Sinar Harian column, also urged Malaysia Airlines not to imitate Western values and suggested the airline stopped serving liquor on its flights.

"Those who ask for liquor are those who are used to drinking. Distract them with more nutritious local food like cendol and such," said Ridhuan, referring to the sweet coconut milk dessert.

Ridhuan, who teaches at the Malaysian National Defence University, also urged MAS to emulate crew members of neighbouring airlines from Thailand and Brunei, who he said adhere to their cultural identities.

His post-mortem of the missing MH370 also touched on airport security, adding that he had no problems being frisked by airport security before boarding a flight.

“It's fine. I am prepared to remove and open whatever as requested, such as watch, belt and telecommunication gadgets.
