BANTING, June 29 (Bernama) -- Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today encouraged the
Orang Asli community to seize the opportunity to acquire knowledge and use it to
enhance their socio-economic status.
The prime minister''s wife, who is also Malaysia Orang Asli Foundation (YOS)
patron, said acquiring knowledge in various fields was very crucial in the
current era to ensure the success of an individual.
"Education forms the backbone of the economic structure, hence with
knowledge we will not be left behind or feel inferior.
"People with education will turn each trial or problem into an exciting
challenge," she said at the launch of a family wellbeing programme at the Busut
Baru Orang Asli village, here.
She noted that Orang Asli parents were now becoming more aware of the
importance of education as evidenced by their initiative to send their children
to study in urban schools.
She said the government had also been proactive in narrowing the gap between
the Orang Asli and other communities, especially in the urban areas, by
allocating RM22.5 million annually for their children''s free education.
